Our Architects
The office of Robert M. Gurney, FAIA is dedicated to the design of modern, meticulously detailed and thoughtfully ordered residential and commercial projects that are sensitive to site, program and budget. Materials are employed with honesty, integrity and ecological awareness. His design process involves an understanding of site specific issues, such as location, landscape, history, availability of materials and construction methods. The office of Robert M. Gurney, FAIA has won more than two hundred and thirty design awards, including two AIA National Design Awards, five AIA National Housing Awards, three American Architecture Awards, three North American Wood Design Awards and three National AIA Small Project Awards. Published extensively in over three hundred national and international books and journals, Robert Gurney has been featured in Architectural Digest’s “AD 100” list, and his work is the subject of a monograph, “Modern Order”, houses by Robert M. Gurney”. His accomplishments in design are complemented by an involvement in service activities to the profession and to students of Architecture. Robert Gurney has served as a member of the AIA Northern Virginia Chapter Board of Directors, Design Committee, Schools Connection Committee, the Virginia Society State Design Committee, and the VSAIA Honors Committee.
